In the world of fashion, coats are a timeless essential, and I firmly believe that one can never have too many! My passion lies in crafting coats by hand, and my collection continues to grow steadily. Each handmade piece brings me immense joy and satisfaction, especially now that I’ve honed my skills through practice.
With every coat I create, I strive to learn and improve. Recently, I experimented with lining a coat using a fabric reminiscent of silk chiffon or organza. However, I encountered a challenge as the lining seams began to fray inside the jacket. This issue arose due to my decision not to use French seams, a detail I now realise would have prevented this problem.
The trench coat pattern I used is a product of my own drafting, featuring elements such as raglan sleeves and a centre back vent with angled pockets.
When it comes to sourcing materials, I prioritise quality, opting for British wool from trusted suppliers like Croft Mill. While the excellence of British wool is undeniable, the fluctuating exchange rate from AUD to GBP can present challenges and sometimes fabrics can appear so differently from how they are pictured online.
